Sherlock

So I realized the other day that I haven't posted anything new in over a year. When I started third year there was just no time to paint and I found it pretty hard to do any 2d work. And now that I'm in VFX that's even more 3d. But as I was trying to paint some textures or do some matte paintings I noticed that my painting skills have gotten a lot worse so I decided to do a painting tonight. And here it is. I was browsing through photos and found a still of the show Sherlock that I really liked. I tried to get through it quickly so I only used one brush and that was the hard round. This painting took about 2 and a half hours.

Vincent Price

I was sketching today. I find myself drawing a lot more since starting 3D. I was supposed to spend the day working on assignments but found myself just drawing out ideas. I also saw the posting for the Vincent Price challenge for Caricaturama Showdown 3000 and decided to do a quicky 'cause he is an awesome actor. So here it is, enjoy

Rework

Last year I was on the subway when I saw a couple who were hugging on the platform; so I decided to draw them. yesterday I was looking through some of my unfinished drawings when I came across the old drawing. Today I decided to rework it and the first image is the result. The girl on the platform was not nearly as frightened but I thought this pose looked better than the original. Well, enjoy.

There was an error with the original so I deleted it.

Artbook!

Finally posting up my artbook pages. I had lots of fun with this and am very happy with the results. Especially looking at the pages I submitted last year. Can you tell that I really like my scarecrow?

Page 1

I spent most of my time on the first page. Wanted to get it just right. In the process, I also went over the drawings and cleaned them up. Boy, did that take long.

And page 2

This ended up being the page of other artwork I did that I liked. And these are my pages. Enjoy.

Finally a new one

So long without posting. Well, so long without drawing. I finally decided to do one of the caricatures of caricaturama showdown on facebook. It was supposed to be a speed painting but ended up taking about 3 and a half hours of my night. Good thing Harry Potter kept me company. Anyways, enjoy. I will try to draw more. It's go time!

Layout is FINISHED

One down, 5 more classes to go. I did end up liking what I drew for my final two layout assignments although the paintings did not go too well. I will work on those more in the summer and hopefully come up with better ones. I find painting layouts a difficult thing to do, especially when it's in grayscale. All I need is more practise, and with all the free time I'm going to have this summer, I will get it. Here's the line art though. Enjoy

The first is my castle scene. This one took longer because of all the perspective and details. The castle alone took me about 5 hours but I think my idea came across well. It was funny to look through the process. The first thumbnail of this was a castle on some mountain in the middle of the ocean, that turned into a castle in a mountainous area with an army heading to destroy the dragon who took over. And this is the end result. At least I was consistent with the castle

The second is my tree house scene, this didn't change much from the original idea. The only problems I had with it were deciding what the treehouses would look like. Once that was figured out, the rest went along quickly. Good practise from the tree pan.

He moves!

My scarecrow, animated through flash. It's so exciting to see him move, although I would still like to animate him traditionally. Soundtrack courtesy of Space Balls, the movie. Enjoy.

Scarecrow Completed

And it's done. Here's the complete version of my maquette, cornfield and all. Enjoy :)

At first it was just the scarecrow.

And then the Cornfield was added.

And then the colour.

Time for a close up.

Bringing Back the Oldies

So Sam and Steph reminded me of a painting today. One that I did in Art Fundamentals that I'm pretty proud of and would like to share with everyone here. It's a self portrait that we had to paint using three methods or theories that we learned in our colour theory class. I chose a triatic colour choice, primary colours, and chiaroscuro.

I really like how well it turned out. Throughout the years I've been trying to get a good grasp of chiaroscuro because one of my favourite artists, and influences, is Caravaggio. If you haven't heard of him, it will be worth your while to look up some of his works. Amazing.

I should probably add that this was painted traditionally with acrylic on paper.

Head and Hand

This was an assignment done for my digital class. The painting is supposed to have a head and a hand showing a single emotion. My emotion was sadness. I feel like I succeeded at showing the emotion but it looks like the sadness is there due to a very bad toothache. This is probably one of my fastest paintings as well. Done in about 2 and a half hours.

Character Design - early stages

So I decided to post the early stages of my character design. Nothing is finalized yet, but I'm liking where it's heading. I'm probably going to push further towards the one on the right. Opinions?

Megan Fox

So here's another caricature that I did for caricaturama showdown, also late. I went with a different approach to this one, trying to make her look more plastic. I also started off with a pencil sketch for this one rather than sticking to digital.

So I finally finished this. It was the challenge for Caricaturama Showdown, 2 weeks ago. It's a caricature of Harry Shearer. Use my new tablet pc. First complete painting I've done using it.
